About Carthage

Carthage, NY is a village in Jefferson County. Carthage is in northern New York and east of Watertown near the border of the United States and Canada.

Carthage was settled in 1798 and was originally known as Long Falls. The village then became incorporated in 1841 and was named after the Carthage in Tunisia. A series of fires have destroyed parts of the village throughout the years, but many historical places still stand. The Carthage Central School District services Carthage.
